Waving to my neighbor who had a heart attack this year and is outside enjoying a cigarette. I am not a smoker, so I don't know what it's like. I have another friend who is diabetic but does not want to give up his favorite things. I suspect it is pretty hard to change your habits like that. Maybe they think the world is too messed up to worry about it? The thought process is what interests me

    @kimlockhartga@beige.party I grew up with an aunt that had health complications all her life, to the point she was stuck in hospital beds half her teen years. We were close in age and thick as thieves while growing up and she was a riot when she wasn't stuck in bed. She'd say things like 'life is for living, not surviving' all the time. Then either ride the line on doctors orders or straight up ignore them. For some, I think, it's about the moment: the enjoyment, the comfort, or the thrill of it.
