We've already had to adjust our content retention settings to stay within our storage limits -- we currently delete content older than 5.5 years, which isn't ideal for an instance that's been running for 9 years. Still, our database grows constantly, currently exploding past 220 GB. If you have any leads on a host that could accommodate us at a decent price, it'd be much appreciated!

@matt@writing.exchange Out of curiosity Matt (and love WF btw), what's the breakdown of that $$ between bandwidth, database and disk storage?

@matt@writing.exchange You can have your own instance for the price of your own internet connection¹ and a domain name, by self-hosting on a cheap home server, thanks to https://yunohost.org/ I tested for you, it’s very easy to setup and manage. 250 users seems feasible. Basically unlimited disk usage, for instance. ¹ I have an unlimited plan for 30€/month here, depends on your country’s policies, I guess.

@matt@writing.exchange Honestly, at this point I'd look at self-hosting. There is a learning curve associated with it and, but the outcome is probably well worth it. It might also be worth asking mastodon.art if they have any advice about making managed hosting affordable - their instance is huge.
