The author seems to have equated "AI" with LLMs, and then used them as synonyms. But neither AlphaFold nor GNoME are language models! So even while moving away from the imprecision of "AI" this author has not succeeded in writing more clearly. >>

Meanwhile, the immediate next segment deeply misunderstands what language models are. Here, the words are quote, so from a different author, but "still struggles" suggests a) that might change (but fundamental task/tech mismatches don't) and b) that there is some effort coming from the LLMs. >>

@emilymbender@dair-community.social Clearly some people have no idea about the AI landscape or purposefully conflate all AI tools under a single umbrella term to give creds to #LLM-based #GenAISlop ,or as I call them #TextRegurgitatingMachines (there’s nothing intelligent about those) in the same way that ultranationalists deliberately conflate anti-Semitisim with anti-Zionism and anti-Israel.
