Harris also mistakenly supposes that the danger of rifles being used for self-defense is that they enable accuracy at much greater ranges with less practice. That may be a concern, if all you are thinking about is the possibility of a sniper attack. In actual fact, the reason why rifles should not be permitted for the ordinary purposes of self-defense, is because a typical rifle is several times more powerful than a typical handgun, and the dangers of overpenetration and misses are extreme.
