All right, I am completely uninvolved in this discourse, but from watching all of the posts on my timeline, is it just me or do there seem to be two completely different definitions of purity culture going around?
One of them seems to be based on like the culture that gives rise to purity rings and waiting to a marriage and all that
And the other seems to be related to leftist infighting and trying to be perfect

@Canageek My understanding is that the latter is borrowing the term from the former, and kinda making it worse for it. Purity Culture as a thing about Sex is the more established proper meaning. And using that exact term for the idea of ideological purity (which is then also being applied in shitty ways anyway) is not great, afaik.

@Canageek I’m aware of both kinds of culture but I've only ever really seen the term used to in the wild to describe the leftist version
