"Do the ends justify the means?"
After thinking about this for many years my answer is that this isn't the whole question. A really big missing issue--sometimes the most important part--is who you become in the process.
You convinced yourself you had to do the "necessary, temporary" evil things to defeat evil, and now who are you? What do you offer the world? Like that German guy said, fighting monsters can make you into a monster. At that point, there might be no more real choices for anyone: The former options were Evil and Somewhat Less Evil. Now there is no more real choice: all options are Evil.

@guyjantic@infosec.exchange The Democratic Party in the United States is aligned with business. They are basically what conservative Republicans used to be. The conservative Republicans are now fascists.
