@CTHW@mstdn.ca @reallyflygreg@mstdn.ca @miki_lou@mastodon.social LNG is not climate-friendly. It is moderately less destructive than coal but it does not move the world towards climate goals. What it does is continues to line the pockets of the fossil fuel conglomerates that lied and got us into this mess. Further, the post-Iran war energy strategy of potential LNG clients is to move away from any imported fuel and investing in renewables as part of national defence and energy sovereignty

@snuffalushagus@mastodon.social @reallyflygreg@mstdn.ca @miki_lou@mastodon.social You are right it's not. It's just better than coal and nowhere near as beneficial as renewables. LNG produces half the co2 coal does when burned and serves as transition away from all fossil fuels. It's also better than Hydrogen. And I think the reason Alberta UCP are so focused on O & G is because of the money. Once the capital costs are met, solar and wind are free. The most short sighted thing I've heard is a plan to use small modular reactors to extract the oil in the Oil Sands.
