"LLMs have democratized software development!" No, LLMs have democratized dependency. The frontier labs are using the same playbook as drug dealers. Give everyone cheap access to a replacement brain until individuals, businesses, and entire industries are dependent on it for their very existence, then jack up the prices and watch society burn.

@camertron@ruby.social Absolutely. Democratized software development is being able to develop software using good, reliable tools for roughly $0. As I have for a long, long time. Meanwhile, devs are having to pay $$$, with costs now skyrocketing, to "build" software completely beholden to a handful of slop machines. Makes zero sense. (And no, "my employer pays for the tokens" is not an excuse!)

@camertron@ruby.social I hate it when these people say democratise instead of popularised. Kratos is power, the people have not seized power of the programming activity, quite the opposite.
