You can put that between a swift (does the bobbin winder work as a swift too?) and the ball winder to get an initial measurement of the singles' length, and then back through to break the ball into even fractions. The yarn counter also has a setting to beep when you reach a specific length, so if you're using it manually, just crank the yarn through until it beeps and stop!
