Question for Brits, does a hosepipe ban affecting 'millions of households' according to the media also apply to allotments? Asking for a wife. And her husband tasked with carrying watering cans. #UK #water #hosepipe #gardening #allotments

@pthane@toot.wales Our allotment society provides water tanks (like cattle troughs) across the site fed by mains water - which we pay for on a meter at the site entrance. Pumps - and therefore hosepipes - are banned by the society - a couple of members tried using powered pumps to get water from the tanks to their plots by hosepipe a few years ago. If I remember correctly when a hosepipe ban was last used by the water company, they turned the water off to our site (although this may have been voluntary by the site). The site rules say that sheds, greenhouses and polytunnels must collect water from their roofs. tThe society has sourced cut-price IBC water containers to help with this - the motivation has been to keep the cost of water down. #allotment
