Another thing that is interesting is this phenomenon, widely discussed at this point, that people perceive AI to be good at everything except the things they have a level of skill and discernment in… with one exception.
Graphic designers talk about how AI flyers look awful but talk to ChatGPT about their relationship problems. Therapists bemoan the harm AI sycophancy does to their clients but use Claude to generate marketing copy for their website. Marketers despair every single campaign from every single brand sounding the same but… you get the idea.
The only dramatic exception to this I’ve seen is software engineers, about 60% of whom think AI is great at writing software.

Now this could be familiarity bias (I am a software engineer myself, and thus work with other SWEs for 40 hours a week). Or it could also be that LLMs are genuinely better at writing software because it’s lucrative and more engineering effort has been spent making them good at it. But it honestly feels like a rather damning indictment on our collective level of skill and discernment in our craft.
