Now this could be familiarity bias (I am a software engineer myself, and thus work with other SWEs for 40 hours a week). Or it could also be that LLMs are genuinely better at writing software because it’s lucrative and more engineering effort has been spent making them good at it. But it honestly feels like a rather damning indictment on our collective level of skill and discernment in our craft.
