@derekthiess@mas.to "We" did no such thing. Those invested in the system panicked as they saw it also. Globalized supply chains were breaking down, the fragility of our system was exposed - the outright lie of it all - and people were imagining things that were better. So the iron hand came down - they forced people back to work even as the pandemic still raged. It could easily be framed as a war, truly. Many lives were lost for the preservation of the system, and since then it's been a constant attack on socialist ideology and a rise of fascist authoritarianism.

    @zazzoo@mstdn.ca I mean, that’s absolutely true, but I’m also perpetually dismayed at how many folks accepted this return to the status quo with depressingly little resistance. How many (even left-leaning…perhaps not so far as you and me) folks I know who not only returned, but seemed to double down on the kinds of self-serving ambition ruining the world. Inability or unwillingness to simplify life or even delay gratification for the collective good…
