@splendorr@mastodon.social I think roguelike deckbuilders are essentially this. Monster Train 2 is probably the closest thing you're going to find to what you're describing. Roguelike deckbuilder where your deck is your party composition and abilities. You defend three vertical tiers against waves of enemies, optimizing builds with each run. Pure combat, zero wandering, very deep. I have not played it but I did watch someone play it for several hours.

    @TerminalTilt@social.terminaltilt.com Thank you!! Had never heard of this one, will check it out! I know this is one of the things roguelike deck builders do. And I like a lot of them! But there’s… there ARE other possibilities. run-based is fine I guess. but the deck building is bugging me (just in a game designer way of “there has to be something else we can do here”) but if they’ve reframed the “acquired abilities” as party composition, could be a good variation! I’ll report back :D
