If the party is lying about Mitch McConnell and sending out false evidence of wellbeing, is that a big deal with consequences in this context? Is this like when the BBC did practice runs for when the queen died, where they're trialling "just deny it" to see what happens for when the big one drops?

    @djm62@beige.party The Kentucky GOP congress, in terror of the idea that their Democrat governor might appoint the successor of a dead Senator, passed a law in the last couple years that unless he dies (in this year's case) after August 4, there HAS to be a byelection. Petard set. Now McConnell is clearly dead, and Booker might win the byelection, so they are attempting to slow walk this to Aug4, and thusly prevent Booker from possibly having the incumbent advantage. GOP Hoisted.
