Is Carney pitching that Canada become more like Norway? Profits generated by oil & gas need to be used to help fund the transition to cleaner energy sources for domestic use. "Norway long ago acknowledged its petroleum reserves wouldn't last forever and that it should use the revenues to diversify the economy. [They] are not exposed to risks of energy shock or decline in the oil markets the way that Canadians are." 4/6 #CdnPoli #EnergySovereignty #sustainability

  • Build the pipeline + they will come? Bieler School of Environment, McGill University: "In response to recent oil supply disruptions as a result of the conflicts in Ukraine and the Persian Gulf, many countries — particularly in Asia and Europe — reconsidered their over-reliance on fossil fuel imports and prioritized energy security by building out renewable energy infrastructure like wind and solar farms and turning to low-carbon solutions." 5/6 #CdnPoli #EnergySovereignty #sustainability

@thegreenpagesBC@mstdn.social Meanwhile Carney argues ordinary Canadians should save the banks that misjudged risk, by subsidizing a pipeline, for a foreign dominated industry that employs an ever declining # of Canadian workers. Ordinary Canadians will be the very last to benefit, and first to pay https://influencemap.org/briefing/Canada-s-Big-Five-Banks-Fueling-Fossil-Risk-33753
