You Europeans are always complaining about #Europe. And I'm not saying Europe is perfect and deserves no criticism, but as an American I am often envious of your set of problems versus our set of problems. @benroyce@mastodon.social It took forever to ban cigarette advertising in the US, and even longer in Europe. My impression was that a lot more people smoked there and it remained acceptable in public spaces. My work took me to Europe and Scandinavia frequently and I was happy to see the decline in smoking. In the case of fossil fuels, the US needs to stigmatize the product much more, although I a not at all hopeful it will work well enough.

@benroyce@mastodon.social Complain. Complain again. Complains some more. And if that doesn't get results then mass protests and strikes! French workers have been known to blockade the channel ports in order to drive political change, causing mass tailbacks on the roads on both sides of the channel which take days to clear and costing both the French and British economies millions in lost productivity. And it works, if imperfectly! Especially when elections are just around the corner ...
