Too many of you still locate your role in maintaining the myth of white supremacy in what you think are overt acts of racism, not the everyday interactions you have. That insistence, to evaluate the myth only on grand gestures of hate, is exactly what ensures you're always distracted from, and always provided an exit for, the things you do every day that cause harm. Things that most Black and brown folx know would never be tolerated by us.

  • It's not the hood or the slur you need to be watching for. It's the assumption you made before anyone said a word. The spot you took because you felt entitled to it. The decision you deferred because you couldn't hold your own position when someone pushed back. The language you used to describe a situation that made you the reasonable one and everyone else a variable. None of that requires malice. All of it causes harm.
