@szbalint@mastodon.social yes, because AC does, in fact, heat up the city while passive methods do not. Don't get me wrong, there are many other actions also needed, not least plant cover, but if you can achieve good enough cooling with passive methods, that is always preferrable to AC.

@pettter@social.accum.se that’s what I just showed you that no, AC is in fact 90% the same when it comes to “heating up the city” as passive methods. Conservation of energy also applies to passive methods, every single W of energy not entering a building heats up the streets and other buildings in the area. And if you really want to focus on the last 10% additional energy it takes to run heat pumps…then we really have to talk about all other main electricity and fuel uses in a city as well.
