First: 5 decades and I quickly thought to myself “he’s old” and then almost as quickly “oh, 5 decades for me too.” Second, I frequently find those rabbit holes entertaining (tho usually not exactly fun). They feel to me like an important part of the learning process

@scottcain@genomic.social Creeps up on you, doesn’t it? I started writing my first computer programs in Logo (turtle graphics!) in the 1970’s when I was still single digits old. Bought my first computer at age 11 using my paper route money and started with BASIC. By the mid 1980’s is was an IBM PC with Turbo Pascal. Then Unix shell and C in college on Sun Microsystems gear. More languages followed over the decades—many learned and forgotten when I didn’t need them anymore.
