@ToniBarth@troet.cafe @matt@toot.cafe for me as a technosolutionist that's easy: if a technology poses a problem, we need to invent another technology to solve it. that's how the tech progress works. Coal/fuel energy is bad, hence there is solar and nuclear, for example.

@menelion@dragonscave.space @matt@toot.cafe I wish there would have been a way to keep all of this behind closed doors and just develop it in a secure environment to a point where it is really ready to be shipped and used world-wide without companies having to pump money into it like there is no tomorrow because they fear they're going to be left in the dust if they don't. It feels like development becomes more reckless rather than precise.

@menelion@dragonscave.space @matt@toot.cafe Yeah, kinda. I hope that, just like with computers, the originals were almost as huge as some of those AI data centres are nowadays, we'll be able to move AI from said huge data centres which are incredibly power hungry into smaller, local devices which don't require as much power and water to run, at which point all of this is going to be way more efficient and ethical. That is what I mean with more thoughtful and slower development.

@menelion@dragonscave.space What if we don't use the problematic technology? For example, electric cars solve some of the pollution issues, but don't solve societal overreliance on, and designing cities for cars, instead of people. @ToniBarth@troet.cafe @matt@toot.cafe
