There is a difference, and the system you were raised inside was very careful to make sure you never noticed it.
You produced compliance.
You produced silence at the moments when silence kept the room comfortable.

You produced the performance of the good girl, the reasonable one, the one who knew how to read what was needed and deliver it before anyone had to ask. You were good at it. You were rewarded for it. The reward looked like belonging, like safety, like being on the right side of the room. What it actually was, was extraction dressed as recognition.
