You produced the performance of the good girl, the reasonable one, the one who knew how to read what was needed and deliver it before anyone had to ask. You were good at it. You were rewarded for it. The reward looked like belonging, like safety, like being on the right side of the room. What it actually was, was extraction dressed as recognition.

  • The system did not reward you because you contributed something. It rewarded you because you were producing what it needed. Your silence. Your shrinking. Your willingness to make yourself smaller so the room could stay the size it was. That was the output. That was what the measurement system was actually measuring. Not your value. Your availability. There is a question underneath the exhaustion that producing more compliance will not answer.
