@HG@beige.party That isn't actually accurate, though. The United States of America had a functioning federal government well before July 4, 1776, even if it was on an ad hoc basis—the Continental Congress—and the formal federal government was actually established with the Articles of Confederation, adopted Novermber 15, 1777. The federal government operated under that charter until the new Constitution took effect on March 4, 1789. The first President of the United States of America was really John Hancock.
