@klymilark@wall.fallcounty.omg.lol @astraluma@tacobelllabs.net I know that but I don't know why B "won", since non-crossover cables work the same with either. Routers tend to come with short yellow crossover cables but they're not important, because for a long time now, devices work with either type: i.e. connecting two PCs they autodetect if one of them need to swap TX and RX.

@starsider@valenciapa.ws @astraluma@tacobelllabs.net From everything I'm finding it seems to boil down to inertia. Since the AT&T 258A cable is ~6 years older than TIA568 it took root in the commercial space, and just stuck, especially since there's no functional difference between the two in straight through cables. At least not one that I can find, there are some things about them for older devices, but that's for landlines and fax machines, neither of which are common now
