"Bilingual character who keeps peppering their sentences with foreign words" is a pretty common trope, but it's not usually how bilingual people work in situations like Marius'. It's just a really lazy way to acknowledge his origin as someone from a different culture. It feels really shoehorned in.

It doesn't help that the sound set of the language he switches to is exactly the same as English with his GenAm accent, which means that it doesn't sound like a real language, it sounds like simlish.
