@DMakarios@theres.life @LJ@sunny.garden I'm not sure why people are still buying e-books on Amazon. I made that mistake too many times and have locked my purchases into their system. I know better now. The best option for purchasing e-books is to buy from the author or publisher in a DRM free format. Then load them into your reader of choice while keeping the original EPUB for PDF stored elsewhere in case your reader suddenly becomes inaccessible.

@mlanger@mastodon.world @DMakarios@theres.life The terrible irony for me as an author is without Amazon, i wouldn't have a career as an indie published writer. It still counts for half my sales. I don't/won't use DRM in my ebooks & have a note in each of them that if someone needs the ebook they bought at Amazon free of that ecosystem, i will send it directly.

@mlanger@mastodon.world @LJ@sunny.garden I don't have an ereader myself, but I do sell (DRM-free) ebooks (see https://deborah.makarios.nz/works). But not many of them, alas, partly because so many people a) look on Amazon and decide since it's not there it doesn't exist, and b) confidently announce to others around the internet that my ebooks don't exist. Publishing independently - especially under CC licenses - has enough challenges as it is, without anti-publicity denying the existence of what you're trying to sell.
