Western Honeybee: I get a small thrill every time I see a honeybee at work. We have always known they are special animals with intelligence and skills beyond our understanding. Now that we are beginning to unravel the mysteries of their cognition, they fill me with even more amazement. Using their butt waggles to indicate the distance and direction of good food is shocking enough. Now we know they can give their hivemates more qualitative reports, wagging with some hesitation if they witnessed a dead bee at the food source. They are taking in and analyzing all their sensory information ann turning it into a mathematical report!
