Mastodon is both the best and the worst. Someone today begging for money - listed their "monthly bills" which included a lot of things I'd describe as luxuries. You don't fucking grift for "coffees" and you certainly don't list a $900 car payment! Stop paying fucking $900 a month for a car you absolute whelk and then begging on mastodon for money. Sorry to rant folks but as someone who was made redundant 3 months before Christmas I've been at a point of poverty that I used to go to the shop just before closing and see what they were getting rid of for 10p - and I'd eat it at half ten at night because the shop closed at ten and it was the only time I could get good. I was made redundant in a poor job market and with monthly outgoings I really could no longer afford. Every single luxury went. I even sold a lot of stuff to try and pay bills (my Amiga 4000 😭) because I thought to myself "when it comes better I can always buy another". At no point did I beg for money. Even my parents went mad when they found out how I was living but they really weren't in a position to help me and I wasn't going to burden others! Some people really don't understand what poor means do they? I was taught that you should earn your rewards and I got myself out of that hole through doing a shit job and working literally 30 hours of overtime a week including weekends, Christmas day, boxing day and new years eve. I was absolutely exhausted come January but at least I made it through Christmas and even managed to buy my family small presents each.
