Getting access to barbells means I can lift big heavy* weights. Which in turn means I have realized that I only _thought_ I was getting a lot of protein. So now I want to be _sure_ I'm getting a lot of protein. Sooooo I started tracking my food again. It's not my favorite thing. Eating what I want without thinking about it was my favorite thing. But, getting >200g of protein per day just on vibes wasn't going to work like I wanted, either 🫤 *it's all relative, but I did deadlift 185 pounds today, which is a lot for me

@jenniferplusplus@hachyderm.io kudos! I strongly agree that calorie and protein counting is critical to grow. More or less, a gram of protein per pound you wanna weigh is the easy to remember metric. Calories before you lift and protein after is a good pattern.

  • It helps that strength training flips this around, too. Tracking to make sure I'm getting _enough_ food doesn't seem as miserable as the way I would have approached this in the past. Anyway, it's only been 5 days, but I don't yet dread or resent making a note of the food I eat. But it is annoying that all the apps focus on calories, and assume that your target numbers are maximums. If my tracker is going to have opinions and not just do the accounting for me, then I want the opinion to be that I did a good job providing for myself. Not that I did a good job withholding from myself.
