I say this after having received what I would call “light spam” (email specifically targeted to me, but still unwanted) for submitting my work (and a fee, of course) to be considered for an award. On the face of it, everything checks out. That is—it appears to be a real organization made of real people giving real awards. But looking at their website’s “jury” page, there’s no one here I seek recognition from. I’ve never heard of any of them.

The thing that’s weird about it is that they *are* professional designers. But most of them work for ad agencies. This is a field that is adjacent, but so unlike the field I operate in. Most of these studios’ websites look exactly the same to me. Full-screen motion graphics, brand photography, visuals that pertain more to print than digital. But stylistically? So similar. Intentionally wacky, with wild color choices, and bad-on-purpose choices. I can’t relate to this crowd. I never have.
