@dougwade@mastodon.xyz Yes, 'paises' means both 'lands' and 'countries', and both 'bajos' and (Eng.) 'lower' can be translated 'nether'. So it all means more or less the same thing, and makes sense when applied to the Netherlands. Are you watching in Spanish? I used to do that because it was the only way to watch soccer in the US, where I lived for part of my childhood. (I could never have done that for something like, say, American football, which doesn't even make sense to me in English. . . .)

@lmgenealogy@mstdn.ca Yeah, I'm watching the Telemundo broadcast. I too started following soccer in the US when you could only get games in Spanish, and I find the commentary more fun, even though I understand less. The English-speaking commentators assume we don't know anything about anything, which is annoying.
