@lmgenealogy@mstdn.ca Yeah, I'm watching the Telemundo broadcast. I too started following soccer in the US when you could only get games in Spanish, and I find the commentary more fun, even though I understand less. The English-speaking commentators assume we don't know anything about anything, which is annoying.

@dougwade@mastodon.xyz @lmgenealogy@mstdn.ca and FIFA doesn't use the same abbreviations as either the IOC or ISO. They overlap a lot, but diverge just enough to be annoying. And there are no consistent rules. ESP for Spain, so you'd think Germany would be DEU, right? Nope.

@dougwade@mastodon.xyz I find the English helpful when something happens and I either miss it or am not entirely sure why something went one way or another (like why a particular goal was/wasn't allowed or some of the fouls) - especially now that VAR is spotting things even the refs don't see. But yeah, depending on who's commentating, it can be a bit annoying.
