@dougwade@mastodon.xyz @lmgenealogy@mstdn.ca and FIFA doesn't use the same abbreviations as either the IOC or ISO. They overlap a lot, but diverge just enough to be annoying. And there are no consistent rules. ESP for Spain, so you'd think Germany would be DEU, right? Nope.

@mweiss@infosec.exchange @dougwade@mastodon.xyz Yes, a number of people have complained about that. Familiarity with flags helps, although some of the teams in the current tournament aren't well known to most of us.
