I know that when people complain about "call out culture" or "cancel culture", they're usually complaining about there being social consequences for bigotry and abuse among famous and successful people. But there are also real problems there, where people who aren't particularly famous or successful are constantly under intense scrutiny by our peers.

What I had on Twitter was basically a sliver of microcelebrity, and it was fucking traumatic. Everything I said was under scrutiny by strangers, and I never knew when someone would read my posts in bad faith and try to make a big deal out of something I didn't word in the exact ideal way.
