Totally agree with this sentiment but what about the fedi servers that are closed source? Shouldn’t they have taken over the “market”? Minds.com and Threads come to mind.

Mastodon is estimated at about 2 million total. https://www.forbes.com/sites/jonmarkman/2026/06/18/how-meta-got-500-million-threads-users-without-building-an-audience/ We just don't see it here because it doesn't properly federate and was almost universally blocked.
