They did. Threads has over 500 million active users. Mastodon is estimated at about 2 million total.

We just don't see it here because it doesn't properly federate and was almost universally blocked.

@lianna@micro.webgarden.click I haven’t seen a single meme/screenshot or link to threads, tons from bluesky, twitter, reddit. So I’m a bit confused who is using that platform. And numbers from a public company are a bit dubious to trust with the amount of bots

@lianna@micro.webgarden.click @lil5@social.last.nl I'm on Facebook and elsewhere and I don't see Threads even *there*. I see Instagram mentioned all the time. Tiktok. Threads barely ever. I wonder if the number is from some default account creation of meta accounts...
