@davidrevoy@framapiaf.org I'm pondering replacing my ancient Wacom Intuos; which tablet would you recommend for a fellow Linux nerd? (if that's OK to ask) (I mainly do pixel art, where my trackball is usually fine, but occasionally I prefer the pen.)

Similarly to why GPU manufacturers don't want anyone to be able to have their hardware working without a single binary blob (patent violations for accelerated encoding/decoding). You also have to remind that these entities have millions in fundings, the same way printer companies do. Not implementing drivers that are technically and legally working compatibly with a public operating system, meaning that it doesn't cost them as much as the proprietary ones as they don't have to ask permission, adds how bad of faith they are. Still thank you for your great work. Trying my own things on my side it's all so tiresome to try to reason with such people. I think it's notably why RMS just started GNU because of printer drivers, you can't negotiate with them or even have a fair exchange.

My initial thought was the tech person didn't really look into it, but agency life has taught me that client dev comm easily turns into a game of telephone. “Wacom” was all marketing needed to hear, and anything else the tech team said was likely reworded. Their driver makes "launch on login" opaque to configure and OpenTabletDriver has some problems with my Huion. But, good to know their software likely doesn't have telemetry.
