Canada's biggest star of the year. A song absolutely inescapable at the time, and still difficult to avoid today.
/me bought the album on first release, when it was still country tinged. Then most of the singles, remade for pop fans.

"...baby one more time" - Britney Spears The piano motif arrives like Joker in the old Batman telly series. And then Britney sings and emotes through the song. Emotes? Sure, Britney's hacked off that her lover's gone, and leaves the song in a place of longing and desire. Best bit is - obviously - the middle eight. Max Martin has arrived, he will not leave. Britney Spears has arrived, we did not - do not! - want her to leave. #TOTP #BritneySpears
