A big thank you to the folks who boosted this and an even bigger thanks to the folks who provided useful information and links. The sound I'm hearing is a low frequency rumble that I began hearing just before 4 AM this morning when it woke me out of a sound sleep. I'm still hearing it after 6 PM.
And a special thanks to the folks who identified themselves as assholes by posting some inane, smart ass, bullshit comment. Of course, you won't see this because I've blocked you. 🙄

@mlanger@mastodon.world this is going to sound crazy but how far are you from any major hydro projects or irrigation pumping stations? I've experienced similar things from big hydro turbines and huge pumps even miles away. The low sound and vibration has a way of traveling and popping up miles down the road.

I finally took the time to drive past the data center under construction that I assumed was the source of the sound I was hearing. It is probably NOT the source -- construction is not so far advanced that they sound be running equipment. I remain baffled about what the sound was and just hope it doesn't come back.
