Only being able to query records by a single meta value, no support for checking if a meta value has not been set at all or getting multiple WordPress options in bulk is severely limiting and it is one of the things that do make the platform look amateurish to those on the outside.

As a result of this, it is not uncommon for me to see stack traces with thousands of individual calls to the wp_options and wp_postmeta tables for a single page during a performance audit, depending on how i was built and many vendors will simply blame your hosting provider for not being able to handle all that brute force.
