@stavvers@masto.ai not that I am at all disagreeing with the notion that the stress upon nofap and effectively masochism is not effectively distilled from a ready devotion to the most popular forms of American (and therefore widely disseminated) forms of protestantism and most mainstream Catholicism, but there are cultural examples of this right-wing terror regarding the body and a sort of loss of virility further back than what we'd call Russian interference. Suspicion regarding bodily pleasure as a vector of infection by the evil and cucked/soy world, especially the notion that it is basically evil and gay to ever give pleasure of any kind to another (but also that it's a sign of weakness to experience it at all) seems both prevalent and longstanding in right-wing kook circles that see the material body as merely the outer marker of and container for some set of value-laden properties (race, sex, often enough class) that are forever both innate/immutable and under threat

@stavvers@masto.ai It is clear there's a kind of atheist-to-catholic-to-orthodox pipeline but I'd argue much of that is an aesthetic push. The scrubbing of almost anything resembling practice from protestantism especially in America left a lot of guys prone to right-wing thought without anything like an immune system against the appeal of a more 'realized'-looking system that has a longstanding set of bells & whistles for them to engage with. In their mind I think they'd really like to be space marines, rather than orthodox monks per se

@Colophonscrawl@monads.online I'd definitely agree with this, for sure, and it's certainly not just recent and that. But there's odd compatibilities with recent movements which I'm struggling to put my exact finger and I might get there in the end once I've divorced some archetypal alt right chud from my 96 year old grandfather (which I'm currently too high to do)
