@stavvers@masto.ai It is clear there's a kind of atheist-to-catholic-to-orthodox pipeline but I'd argue much of that is an aesthetic push. The scrubbing of almost anything resembling practice from protestantism especially in America left a lot of guys prone to right-wing thought without anything like an immune system against the appeal of a more 'realized'-looking system that has a longstanding set of bells & whistles for them to engage with. In their mind I think they'd really like to be space marines, rather than orthodox monks per se

@Colophonscrawl@monads.online I'd definitely agree with this, for sure, and it's certainly not just recent and that. But there's odd compatibilities with recent movements which I'm struggling to put my exact finger and I might get there in the end once I've divorced some archetypal alt right chud from my 96 year old grandfather (which I'm currently too high to do)
