Given how politicians work everywhere, it would make the remaining politicians more British nationalist, probably even more English nationalist, since they have no reason to restrain themselves to please Scottish voters.
The only way to make a politician really rethink how they serve the population is remove his seat from under his bottom.

You may well be right, but I'm hopeful voters will become more aware of how they are being lied to and ripped off, when an independent Scotland, Wales, and reunited Ireland do stuff that is genuinely for the benefit of the population. Too many folk have no idea that the UK is no democracy...
