But yeah it's all pretty demoralising! :( I don't blame you for just taking the whole thing private, I've been wondering the same thing, but so far have always been able to just block more and more of the expensive URLs. Did you experiment with the HTML file cache? https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:File_cache

    @samwilson@wikis.world Haven't tried this, thanks for the tip. Was thinking indeed that a "static" site might be a way to cope. NB: Have not quite understood why Cloudflare did not protect (given their service is based on caching as far as I understand it). Which reminds that besides the resource bar being raised by all the aggressive crawling, there is also an expertise bar being raised, as suddenly small sites become "high traffic", with all the complexities this entails. @vrandecic@mas.to @kaffeeringe@social.tchncs.de
