I remember as a kid in the 90s being fascinated with the idea of high-speed internet coming from satellites, available globally for people for free or at least cheap enough for most people to have.
And although the tech is very different in some ways from how the books in the 90s thought it might look, we now largely have that! And as far as I can tell, the actual people (the vast majority of the workers) in both Starlink and SpaceX seem like decent people with hope and determination to simply do a good job!
And yet, the person/people at the very top of SpaceX and Starlink does and says things day by day which just squashes my ability to retain that childlike joy at what this tech is and can be.
There's not much to this post. Just a bit of a rant to get my thoughts written down somewhere. Wrangling with trying to keep joyful and optimistic feelings in a world which, currently at least, is doing all it can so people don't feel that way.

One thought is whether Starlink should become a globally-owned service contributed to by countries around the world. If it's going to both benefit people globally (or should, at least), and is also going to impact people globally (so much more can still be done in future to lower impacts on night sky viewing), the ownership should be global too, rather than being limited to one country (and even then mostly one man in particular).
It could help with pricing if it was seen as a service worth supplementing rather than a purely commercial enterprise too.
Unlikely to happen for so many reasons, I know. Just another thought rolling around in my head. Not even sure it's a fully developed thought, but, curious to hear from others.
