    @vascorsd It's certainly a hell of a time to be alive. :bear_hugs:

    @ratfactor You put into words something that I was ruminating on since several months, and I was reaching a very similar conclusion, thank you.

    @gwenverbsnouns Oh wow, yeah. I've often wondered how people who were studying AI/ML before "all of this happened" feel about where we're at. I'm sure opinions vary. Super important to have those other interests and facets to lean on. I always marvel that those stories about career guys who retire and then just...die because they don't know what to do with themselves. I can't even imagine not having 1,297 hobbies waiting in the wings. ๐Ÿคฃ

    @gwenverbsnouns Oh wow, I remember those hall of fame images! I loved playing with POV-Ray, mostly just hand-writing scenes. My finest achievement at the time was writing a program (in Java) that would convert BMP images to pov-ray file with a field of colored spheres, one for each pixel. I was so proud of that. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

    @gwenverbsnouns Yes!!! I have a currently on-hold JavaScript (canvas) raytracer project I'm very excited about - it's an interactive lesson that builds up the theory over a series of little demos starting with 2D raytracing. So many projects to do! That one is near the bottom of the stack. ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ

  • @ratfactor I feel like us programmers are still out there, we've just lost the spaces we used to have

    @ratfactor As a Gen X programmer, I loved this essay, thank you! "Acoustic" programmer (like guitars)? "Thought-powered" programmer (like gas-powered cars)? I'm not ready to be an heirloom yet!
