The big one is the ascetisism. Proddies and papists alike will claim their faith is the one with the greater ascetisism but neither have shit on the orthodox church wherein your entire relationship with god is predicated on a level of ascetisism way beyond this.

@stavvers@masto.ai I used to have fun by replying to right wingers in Russian and seeing how many of them came back in the same language. It was a lot. Also I once plotted the time of day that right wingers posted and it was basically Moscow working hours. Why is it so hard to get people to understand that this is real?

@stavvers@masto.ai astute! one once-prominent US conservative columnist converted from Protestant to Catholic to Eastern Orthodox (although the primary authoritarian he was cozying up to was Orban) This (and see discussion in replies) spells it out pretty clearly—they see asceticism as "manly" and progressive Catholic reforms as "feminine" https://xcancel.com/EricRSammons/status/1721528016377946231

@stavvers@masto.ai so basically ANOTHER example of where everything that is worst about america is russian, eh? The russians are basically behind everything we've done to ourselves since world war 2, by golly. I wonder if Smedley Butler was with the Russians?
