I can't give detailed advice in a handful of toots, but there are literally thousands of resources out there you can draw on to reduce your expenses. Food is probably the main fulcrum. Buy only wholesome food, buy from people you know, buy in bulk and cook communally, food is the staff of life, food is medicine, food is an obligation (eat or die!) and an honor (always give thanks for food.) Eat wholesome food. Spend less, eat better. 3/5

Next, grow something. The easiest things to grow are microbes. Compost all the things that can be composted. Don't pay money for things that can't be composted (e.g. plastic. Another reason to buy in bulk from local farmers: easier reduce or even eliminate waste.) Grow truck fuel (ethanol) so you don't have to pay for fossil fuel to get between land and market/town. 4/5
