  Re-posting this video again. I've tried it out and yeah, laminated cardboard with wheat paste totally works, the result is as strong as wood (and a little lighter.) This is a near-perfect way to bootstrap structures and buildings. You can use waste cardboard, and wheat paste is incredibly cheap.   Solar panels powering A/C units is a stopgap, an interim measure. You're not really cooling anything off, you're just schlepping the heat from one place to another and engendering more heat to do it, that then has to make it back out into space through the CO2 and methane and whatnot. Our problem is to balance the energy leaving the Earth with the energy entering the system (from the Sun mostly but also from burning fossil fuels.)

  So yeah, it seems to me that we're doomed. Specifically our civilization in its current form cannot continue, because it's going to get even hotter, and that and the knock-on effects of that are going to overwhelm our fragile infrastructure. We might have done something about this in the past, but now it's far too late.

  Mini (re-)introduction. I'm a computer nerd, sci-fi nerd, and eco-fanatic. I grew up in San Francisco where I reside now. I'm a recluse.   Remember that our problem now is not getting "enough" energy, it is that we use too much energy and are stewing in our own waste heat. We need to shine more. Literally.   We've been up on the land for about a week now. Just came back to get some supplies. Things are going pretty well this time. The weather has been okay. I even managed to plant a handful of Hopi Blue corn to see how well it might grow.

  What will the new ecologically harmonious economic/technological regime be like? You spend way less time commuting, as most everything you need is nearby and you only need to work a couple of hours a week. Life is much simpler, but richer. You have lots of time to do... whatever. It's quiet because there aren't loud engines all over the place. Imagine a park next to a nice cafe and library, that kind of thing. #SolarPunk

  I keep orbiting around the idea of a "Sim #Permaculture" app. It would be both a game and a useful garden/farm management tool. I know of a few attempts to build something like that, but most of them stall eventually. With that in mind, I figure you'd start by defining protocols and data models that could outlast any one particular project and support interoperability. (FarmOS publishes their data models on their website.)
