If we had a meaningful UBI, then everyone's basic needs would be guaranteed. We would be able to take our survival for granted. This would drastically reduce the power of money and therefore the power of the wealthy. If a person felt like they were being exploited, they weren't being respected, they weren't getting a fair deal, they could simply quit. The leverage that workers would have would be increased hugely. This is not something that I could see them allowing at all. The ruling class will fight tooth and nail to preserve their power and privilige. If we have the bargaining power such that a UBI is on the table, the reason the wealthy (and the politicians they own) would accept it, is because they feel that the alternate is revolution - which would mean that they completely lose their power and legitimacy. In that case, we should choose revolution. It comes back to that Assata Shakur quote: "Nobody in the world, nobody in history, has ever gotten their freedom by appealing to the moral sense of the people who were oppressing them."
